If you thought the dream ticket was, perhaps, remotely possible, don’t think that any more. Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, came out and said:

I do think we will have a dream team, it just won’t be those two names [Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton]. Whoever our nominee is and whoever he or she is and whoever he or she chooses, will be a dream team as the Democrats go forward.

There was a following question about the ticket, which garnered the response:

Take it from me, that won’t be the ticket.

And it follows up from the previous day when Pelosi said that the a ticket with both Obama and Clinton on it was “impossible”:

I think that ticket either way is impossible. I think that the Clinton administration has fairly ruled that out by proclaiming that Senator McCain would be a better commander-in-Chief than Obama.

Now, if I were to read into this, I gather three things. One is that Pelosi, being a party power-broker at this moment, has been privy to some meetings and calls to both campaigns that have indicated to her that the joint ticket is not going to happen. Two is that Pelosi, and probably the other party ‘elders’ are blaming Clinton and her campaign for this outcome. And three is that they are ticked off by this outcome, because it was one way that the party was going to be able to resolve the primary race issue.

If I were a party ‘elder’, I’d be ticked off about this outcome too. I know I’ve derided the idea since the beginning. And when Clinton said, leading into March 4, that she was going to throw the kitchen sink at Obama, I would have started to worry, and then got real angry with the attacks she launched on Obama, and the things she said about him.

And if Clinton has ticked off the party ‘elders’ with her stupid attack plans, she might have just pushed them, and the remaining superdelegates who will decide this race, into the Obama camp.
