I watched the budget. As I said to St. Ives, I usually wait for the recap the next day, because I can make more sense of economics on a page than in the air. But I thought I’d give it a go. It was as expected - no rabbits and no shocks. It was on the ABC after all, so I wouldn’t expect shocks unless the cast of The Bill ran into the House.
Anyway, my biggest reactions actually came when Kerry O’Brien was interviewing Malcolm Turnbull. I hate Turnbull now. I used to say I liked him, and in this interview, he came off as a git. A slimy, petty git. Instead of sucking up a bullet and saying “Yeah, they delivered what they said they would,” or even better, saying “They had all this time to build a budget that went above and beyond what they said they were going to do 6 months ago, and they didn’t! How lame are they! They have no imagination.” Instead, Turnbull said that they didn’t do what they said they would, and would ramble about stupid points. Stupid points being how the rich and super-rich are taking some brunt this time around - of which he is one. Kerry would interject whenever he sounded really stupid to try and get him back to the ground of sanity. But it mainly failed, and Turnbull looks like a fool in my eyes.
Thomas.
