November 4

Something slipped my mind come election day just gone: It was the one-year mark of me working in the clubhouse at the golf course. It has, in recent weeks, become my only job after I asked to be transferred from the pro-shop to the clubhouse only. Some 6 years of 4:30am starts on Saturday morning had finally out-stayed its welcome.

I worked hard, and did more than was expected of me in that job (in both my jobs actually). And I only had one customer/member say thank-you for everything I did for them. I didn’t even do that much for that particular person when compared with others. And no, it wasn’t my father. I was disappointed in that, but what do you expect? People assume someone else will do ‘it’, assume that it’s part of your ‘job’, assume that thanks isn’t necessary. I’ve seen quite a bit doing that job. I’m not unhappy to see me leave it – especially now that I’m in a more senior position in the restaurant, better paid, with more hours.

Anyway, that’s about it. One year at that job. Hopefully I’ll be able to tick off another two more and then I’ll be out into the teaching world, all things going well.

I think back at the year and it seems like a few weeks. Other times, it seems like two. I guess that’s what you get when you had a year like mine.

Kinder Surprise

I just had a Kinder Surprise. In it was one of those little pods, and inside that was a fuzzy, green gorilla. I was quite surprised because it looks like an upgrade from the quality of ’surprise’ when I was a kid. Back in ‘the day’ you had to build your own toy, apply stickers as you saw fit, and then hope that it lasted the week. This one, it looks like one of those dinky things weird people keep on their desk. Sort of like how it’s now on my desk.

Anyway, a commendation to Kinder Surprise for keeping the ’surprise’.

Obviously I’m bored.

Very bored.

Very.

Secretary of State Clinton?

The title says it all – apparently Clinton has been offered the job and she is thinking it over.

The NY Times is reporting that if she gets it, Biden would be pushed to the back. I originally thought the same thing – but then thought that actually Obama could preference Biden over Clinton which completely eliminates her as a political opponent. It takes her out of the Senate, where she could cause him trouble passing things (and all sorts of headaches if she became Majority Leader), puts her into a position where it’s…  Read more frowned upon to play politics over carrying out your portfolio, and if Obama looked to VP ahead of State she would have very little sway in things. In all, it could be a very strategic move. However, if he plans to give her some power, then you’re 100% correct – a lot of baggage, and another ego to contend with.

It’s a very interesting move. I don’t know how I feel about it yet. I still have lingering resentment of her dirty campaign through the primaries. But part of me is saying that she might do a good enough job. Then there’s a third voice saying it’s genius politics. And a fourth saying that it’s a great move for 4 years time. A lot of opinions on this move.

Very, very interesting.
