The Sojourn Group - A group of friends who met through various means. Myself and Andrew joined the original four through Andrew’s brother, Pope Francious. The Pope had met our St. Ives Correspondent, the Ombudsman and Mr. Rabbit through school and formed a regular group of diner-goers. Eventually poker would become a regular fixture among the six of us, leading to a weekly competition for The 18 Cup. This, however, has come to an end of late, as the favourable card game is now 500, the Ombudsman has left the confines of Sydney for the plains of Menindee and a high-ranking job, and the Pope has left the group for reasons unknown.
-Update-
The group is, well, semi-disbanded in that it still exists on the special occasion, otherwise it’s only some people meet up. Usually it’s Andrew and myself, or Andrew, myself and the Pope, on one side, and the other it’s St. Ives, Mr. Rabbit and me. The Ombudsman is in Menindee, and rarely in Sydney. If he is, the group reforms for the night.
Andrew - My friend from high school (one of the few remaining) who has (for some strange reason) stuck with me. A scratchy card player, but can be deadly when it comes to poker. But not GoldenEye or Perfect Dark - he’s been on the receiving end of a Thomas-mopping there. Bowling, too, is an activity of ours.
The Ombudsman - A friend of mine gained through joining the sojourn group. A teacher, he has, of late, married, taken a promotion into the public education system, moved twelve hours from Sydney to Menindee, and is completing his third post-graduate degree. All this and he just turned 25.
St. Ives Correspondent - Another friend through the sojourn group, he has proved quite the senior of the group - he was the first to own his own place of residence and obtain a high ranking position in his school (a teacher as well). He is an on-off contributor to this and Mr. Rabbit’s blog. Mid-2007 St. Ives Correspondent has become engaged, and now we have a Mrs. St. Ives Correspondent who apparently enjoys this blog. It certainly wouldn’t be because of the ‘quality’ of the content.
Mr. Rabbit - Yet another friend through the sojourn group, and a blogger in himself. Another teacher, and a fellow Sydney University attendee. We share very similar opinions on a variety of issues. We drove to Menindee in August of 2007 to visit the Ombudsman who has moved out there. It was a very memorable experience.
Pope Francious - Andrew’s brother, and friend of mine. Rarely do we see eye-to-eye on things, but recently it seems we’ve been getting along just fine. He is also a teacher, much to his own displeasure. He shares a keen interest in most things I’m in to - though that may be because he’s interested in, well, everything.

Thomas - I just discovered your blog today. I am very interested in your observations about Virginia politics and our 2008 Senate Election. I’ve lived in Virginia most of my life, am passionate about politics and elections in general, and my state in particular and have seen before my eyes an extraordinary transformation in Virginia and its politics my lifetime. I’d love to correspond with you, exchange insights with you, please e-mail me if you can. It’s very interesting for me to find an observer of our state’s politics, writing about it and following it from Sydney, NSW, Australia.
Also, I live in Arlington, Virginia, but have lived in other parts of the state as well.
